typically only hear about what is happening in our country. Why? Could this be because our government is trying to shield us from the evil acts they're committing on other soil? Or because they want us to believe that we're always either the victim or the savior. I also found that mainstream media looks like petty drama compared to the anti-war media, which is updating us on serious topics like death rates.
I believe the government is blocking us from these outlets because they don't want us to see the harm they are doing to not only countries but also innocent people. Like many Americans, I grew up in a military family, which can cause lots of bias, rightfully so. We are taught that the U.S. military sacrifices it all for our freedom, but who exactly is trying to take our freedom? As I'm writing this, New York Times Co. V. United States keeps coming to mind. A court case that stemmed from the New York Times publishing the Pentagon Papers, which were classified papers about the U.S. government's involvement in the Vietnam War. Ultimately, the New York Times Co. won due to freedom of the press. I find this to be relevant to this topic because even though the press won, it can still be frightening to publish something about the government. I also believe there is fear of being politically incorrect, us Americans are so scared to upset others because of "cancel culture" and doxing.
In conclusion, I find that it is so important to be transparent when it comes to the military, after all it is where our tax money goes, but not only is it a money problem, families are deeply affected by war and deserve the truth.
